Utica City School District Capital Improvements

Utica, New York

Utica City School District
Project: District-Wide Capital Improvements
Location: Utica, New York (Oneida County)
Architect: Stieglitz Snyder Architecture
Construction Budget: $187 million

Eleven of the district schools share in the $170.8 million capital improvement project.  Albany, Herkimer and Jefferson Elementary Schools received classroom additions to accommodate a district wide degradation.  Conkling Elementary is the district's new 10th elementary school that has been created to accommodate an increasing enrollment.  The design and planning was an inclusive process that included teachers, administrators, staff and parents; which led to planned improvements that will provide state of the art teaching environments that address the districts mission and buildings that will be maintainable for years to come.

Project highlights include renovating all schools for repairs and safety issues and replacing the roofs on all facilities.  All buildings include district wide standardization improvements including technology, fire alarm, security, access control, clock/pa and direct digital controls for mechanical systems.

Overcrowding at Thomas R. Proctor Senior High School will be addressed with the building of an extension for a new, larger cafeteria.  The old cafeteria will be split into new classrooms.  Other changes include an auxiliary gym, restoration of the auditorium, stadium upgrades and new roof, windows and wiring, with work scheduled for completion by September 2016.
